Photography Session

My Thirty (sometimes dirty) precious toes.

Before we moved and left our old city, I wanted to have a photography session with the boys downtown.

A good friend and awesome photographer, Angela Pepin, spent the day with us.

Yes, we carried and pushed and sometime drug the props around town.
It was a sight.

She even had a group of tourists from another country want to have their picture made…

At least we think that is what they wanted. There was a language barrier which made it a little confusing.

It was hilarious.

We had so much fun.

 

The boys did great!

They look so much older and (even if I do say so myself) very handsome.

 
 

 
 
 
 
 

 

We had a security guard circling from time to time to see what we were up to. Yeah, two women, three boys and a load of “junk” are really going to do a lot of damage.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 That day is a special memory and the photos are something I will cherish for a long time. Thanks again, Angela!

 

 

Babies and a Bag

I have three sisters who are all pregnant right now.  They will each be giving my mother a new granddaughter to add to her crew of three grandsons (mine) and three granddaughters. 
We couldn't be more excited. 

I made crib bedding for one sister, Darci Joy.  It was so much fun.
Since it was made before I started sharing my adventures
with you I may post some pictures of it later. 

For now, what I want to talk about is the bag I made for my sister Shelly Beth who already has two beautiful daughters.

I started by brain storming and writing out my design ideas.

This is the fabric I was working with. 
She didn't want a lot of pink or purple since she has been there and done that with the other two girls.

I cut it all out according to the measurement I had designed.

Then stayed up until 2:30am sewing the pieces together.  It was one of those projects where I was on a roll and everything was going so well, I didn't want to quit.

Here is the finished product.  I am so happy with it.  I added a little structure in the bottom, to help hold its shape.

She wanted lots of pockets for all the things babies require.  I decided to put them on the inside so she could use it later or for something other than a diaper bag.

I almost wanted to keep it, but I guess I will let her enjoy it instead.  
I will just make some more. 

I did however, take it to Savannah with me on a "quality assurance road test". 

Now off to find some more cute fabric to make another style for my other sister Stephanie Joy.  She wants a big flower and a place to embroider her baby daughter's name.  I think I will use a version of these or this great idea for the flower.

How my Savannah Souvenir was made.

As I mentioned before, I had wanted to find some sort of salvaged architecture to make my souvenir.

I was impatient to get it finished, so I just decided to start from new lumber. 

My brother in law, Tim, needed some pants hemmed and I needed a carpenter.  It was a good trade. 

We started with a 1" x 12" x 4' and he trimmed it to the size I wanted.

He used a router for the edges...

added trim and then it was all mine to finish.

I was a little nervous.

I used a Dremel tool to distress it some. 

My dad used to do some woodworking and I would help/watch him create things like this, 

but I wasn't sure where to start. 

So, I just went for it.

I taped off the center and painted the edges Red. 

The paint I used was just craft paint from the hobby store we all know and love.

 

I then painted the main part with a blue from the same store and painted on the letters in black.

I again distressed it and sanded the edges some more.  Then lightly brushed on some poly.

I was so excited to add the metal numbers.  I think they really made it GREAT!

I am sure you will see this again, when I am decorating our new home.

Savannah Souvenir

My husband and I got to go on a mini vacation.  Since we will be moving into a new house soon (I hope) I am need of some new decor inspiration.
Actually, I am always in "need" of inspiration.

I wanted to go somewhere new and where I knew there would be plenty of beautiful places to see.  I chose Savannah and  I am so glad.  It was great.

I will have my collection of photos posted soon.
As many of you know there are lots of very pretty things to see. 

At The Paris Market, one of my favorite shops, I bought some metal numbers.  "810" for August 2010.  I had envisioned placing them on a piece of salvaged architecture.  Since I wasn't able to find exactly what I wanted and I am too impatient to keep looking this is what I came up with instead.  I love the way it turned out. 

Pulaski Square was the first square we walked through and actually the last one as well.  This quickly became my favorite square. 

It is where I found a door that I just loved.  In my quest to find a new home here in our new city, I have found one that I like but is need of a red door.  I was so happy to see one, more importantly to show my husband how pretty it would be.
